This Sunday, we are thrilled to host a Sneaker Day Party in collaboration with 1528 Webster and SOLESPACE, LLC. This event is not just a celebration of sneakers but also a tribute to the journey that has shaped my love and work in the sneaker & fashion industry.
My journey began in 2008 when I started a clothing brand in Tokyo, Japan. In 2009, after a grad school assignment focused on creating businesses that tackle social issues, I officially launched the brand in Oakland with an emphasis on diversity. We designed streetwear that celebrates multiculturalism and encourages patience in understanding different cultures. We began with pop-ups in Old Oakland alongside Versus, owned by Tyranny Allen, and then moved to Urban Stitch in Uptown, owned by Alanna Nichelle Rayford. Eventually, we secured our own store by taking over the lease from ladies at Shoe Groupies in Uptown.
During this incredible journey, my business partner at the time, Muhammed, also known as Asaba, and I launched our own sneaker, the Unlace.
