The recent presidential debate was a reminder of the deep divisions within our political landscape. Unfortunately, on the local level, we are too familiar with what transpired on Thursday, given all that happened in the last couple weeks with our own city officials. While it showcased the candidates’ policy differences, it often devolved into distractions and personal attacks, overshadowing substantive discussion. For voters seeking clear policy outlines and respectful discourse, the debate might have been disappointing.
Like many who wish we had better options, I say your better options lie with your local officials. Your local officials have more impact on your day-to-day lives than the U.S. president. This is because your local officials live in your neighbourhood, and their actions have a direct impact on you in a way that a president’s actions might not.
So, come Nov. 5th, your local officials should be your utmost concern. Therefore, to have a better chance of reviving our beloved city, look no further! It’s time to bring a positive aura to The Town!
